French dancer Hélène ・ Juglaris （ 1916-1951 ） was fascinated by Japanese Noh and devoted herself to the study of Noh and Japanese culture. With the support of her husband Marcel and other Japanese studies scholars, she completed a translation of the chanting piece "Hagoromo" and successfully staged a performance of it in Paris in 1949. Hélène's performances were well received, but in 1951, at the age of 35, she died of illness. After her death, people who visited Miho Matsubara were moved by Marcel's story, and the former Shimizu City and its citizens cooperated to erect the "Monument of Hagoromo （ Hélène's Monument ）.
This exhibition commemorates the 40th anniversary of the "Hagoromo Festival" this October, which began as a way to honor Hélène, and in addition to exhibiting materials and photographs related to Hélène and the Miho Hagoromo Firelit Noh Play, will present a video recording of the 1952 unveiling ceremony of the "Monument of Hagoromo".
